Marriage Ceremonies

Marriage can still be a sacred union.

... it's your story and it will be reflected in your ceremony.

Your wedding will honour your love and commitment to each other and, as such, the ceremony will be uniquely yours. Apart from the legal requirements of the ceremony, there are no rules. You can choose whatever theme and content you wish. This can range from a simple intimate ritual, through a ceremony with elegant features, to a celebration which reflects your cultural background. It will honour your journey as a couple and acknowledge where you are going. It can recognise your family and friends who have all played an important role in your lives and who will support your marriage into the future. Your relationship is your story and this will be reflected in your ceremony.

...at any time and any place.

As a registered Marriage Celebrant living in Hobart, Tasmania, I can marry you anywhere within Australia, at any time and any place. This can be in your home, in a hotel or a function centre. Or you can choose to honour your sacred union and join together in the natural cathedral of a forest, under a tree in a park, with sand between your toes on a beach, in the centre of an island, on a headland overlooking a bay, on a mountain top or in the mouth of a cave.

You can have a large gathering, or you may desire an intimate and sacred ceremony with as few as the bride and groom, the required two witnesses and the celebrant.

...the symbolism that is important to you.

You will want this day to be a relaxed and joyful celebration of your union. It is your marriage, and you can be involved in the development of your ceremony by choosing the time, the place, the words, the music, and how you wish the ceremony to be conducted, or you can leave it to me to craft after we have discussed the symbolism that is important to you.

From The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho:
“At that moment, it seemed to him that time stood still, and the Soul of the World surged within him.
When he looked into her dark eyes, and saw that her lips were poised between a laugh and silence, he learned the most important part of the language that all the world spoke - the language that everyone on earth was capable of understanding in their heart.
It was love.
Something older than humanity, more ancient than the desert. Something that exerted the same force whenever two pairs of eyes met, as had theirs here at the well.
She smiled, and that was certainly an omen - the omen he had been awaiting, without even knowing he was, for all his life...
It was the Language of the World.
It required no explanation, just as the universe needs none as it travels through endless time... when you know that language, it’s easy to understand that someone in the world awaits you...
And when two such people encounter each other, and their eyes meet, the past and the future become unimportant.
There is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only.
It is the hand that evokes love, and creates a twin soul for every person in the world. Without such love, one’s dreams would have no meaning.”

May the sun bring you new energy by day,

May the moon softly restore you by night,

May the rain wash away your worries

And the breeze blow new strength into your being,

And all the days of your life may you walk

Gently through the world and know its beauty.

Now you will feel no rain
for each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now you will feel no cold,
for each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now there is no loneliness for you,
for each of you will be a companion to the other.

Now you are two persons,
but there is one life before you.

Go now to your dwelling place,
to enter into the days of your togetherness.

And may your days be good and long upon this earth.
