Pam
Giblin (Selenna) - registered civil marriage celebrant, Hobart Tasmania
For many years my family and I lived in a small community
on the Tasman Peninsula. It was a magical time where annual celebrations
and other rites of passage were shared with a number of friends and
neighbours whom I came to regard as family. It was during this time
that I learned to respect the value of ceremony and ritual and the sense
of belonging they can evoke. I also learned that these things can empower
us throughout our lives. I was living an alternate way of life more
akin to village or tribal life from days gone by and it inspired me
to write Nemeton,
my first novel.
Nemeton, which in ancient
Celtic means ‘sacred place, or grove’, seemed to sum up
that time. Those experiences taught me that when human beings share
intimate moments of celebration in our lives, we are not only creating
something very special, we are reclaiming and honouring the intrinsic
sacredness that nourishes and enriches our whole existence.
While on the Peninsula, I also wrote and presented
a nationally syndicated radio program, Wounded
Healer, which ran each week for twelve months on the
Community Radio Satellite Network, ComRadSat. It looked at various aspects
of emotional, spiritual and physical health through the balancing of
archetypal behaviour and the use of ritual.
In 2001, when our children went to high school, I moved
back to Hobart with my partner of 26 years, Tom, where I continue to
write. Becoming a civil celebrant has provided me with an opportunity
to draw the many elements of my life together into a cohesive service
for others.
I have a strong personal ethic, a sense of commitment
and I pursue excellence in all that I do. My broadcasting experience
has taught me the value of articulating clearly and my writing has given
me the focus to find the most powerful words to best convey the feelings
and intent of any ceremony. I will listen closely to your ideas and
vision and will work with you to ensure that your ceremony will be uniquely
yours, and have meaning and significance for you and your family.
