Commitment Ceremonies
… strengthen the union of people.

A Commitment Ceremony is a private or public declaration of a life commitment, love and dedication between those not wishing, or unable, to take the legal step of marriage. It is a less formal approach yet still provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and strengthen the union between people. This can be a special ceremony designed to strengthen, for example, the bonds between parents and children in a new step-family.

...same-sex couples.

A Commitment Ceremony could be a ceremony for same sex couples in celebration and acknowledgement of your shared love. Declaring this special bond, with friends and family as witnesses, will honour your relationship as a sacred union. As your Celebrant, I can help you design a special ceremony that captures the spirit of your relationship and honours your commitment to each other. It will be a blessed and meaningful event.

Since November 2009, same sex-couples in Tasmania have been able to have their Deeds of Relationship registered at officially recognised ceremonies involving celebrants and witnesses. This allows them to declare their love and commitment in front of friends and family members in a way which is dignified, solemn and has official recognition.

Such a ceremony may include readings, exchange of vows and promises, a statement of commitment, the exchanging of rings, and music. It can take place at any venue that is special to you.

Affirmation of Marriage Vows
Wedding Anniversary

You may wish to celebrate a significant wedding anniversary by renewing your vows. Or you may feel drawn to affirm your feelings after your relationship has gone through a major change. We can create a personal and meaningful ceremony similar to your original wedding or you can involve each member of the family with poems, songs and shared stories. In this way you can share your joy with everyone in the circle and life of your relationship.

A Certificate of Affirmation can be signed and presented at the completion of the ceremony.

Name Giving

In the ancient days one’s name was a powerful expression of the energy of your ancestors. With your family and community as witness, it was bestowed upon you to recognise your conscious existence and the continuation of life within your community. It was not given lightly.

A name-giving ceremony provides you with a wonderful opportunity to officially welcome your child into the loving circle of your family and friends, at which you can reveal his or her chosen names. It is a blessing of your baby's life and can be a powerful ritual for the expression of hope and joy for the future. It is an occasion when a new birth is celebrated... where Life is affirmed.

A naming ceremony can be an important event which involves both extended families, as well as friends and godparents/mentors. You might like to have a "Wish Book", or a circle where special beads, dreams and blessings are bestowed upon the baby. Verses can be written and read by Godparents/Mentors, Parents, Siblings or Grandparents.

To commemorate this special blessing I can provide you with a Name Certificate for the child signed by the parents, godparents/mentors.

I would also be delighted to lead Name Givings for adults who have decided to change their name after a special initiation, or changed circumstance in their lives.

Other Rites of Passage and Blessings

You may have become engaged, just moved into a new house or business, about to move overseas, undergone a divorce, at last be free from a worrisome health symptom, or about to celebrate a significant birthday...

Such moments in life mark a period of healing, transition and rebirth and can be consciously incorporated into our lives through ritual. In doing so, we can put a final sense of completion on the old energy, adjust to the changes we’re experiencing, step into them with confidence and move forward into our full potential.

Together we can create a sacred ritual appropriate to any significant occasion.
